Running the Boston Marathon? Share Your Story

Art Mercurio is at it again. The Boston resident this spring will embark on his fourth B.A.A. Boston Marathon – his seventh overall, and he’s doing it to support American Red Cross disaster relief efforts. Art is a Professor and Interim Chairman of the Department of Cancer Biology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. His laboratory studies the molecular basis of breast and prostate cancers. He received his B.S. in biochemistry from Rutgers, a Ph.D. in cell biology from Columbia and was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Cancer Research at M.I.T. He was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center prior to UMASS Medical School. He lives in Boston’s South End with his wife Pam. More than 50 South End residents have agreed – for one reason or other – to strap on their running shoes and go 26.2 miles on April 15th.

We’ve already received information from a handful of runners, but if you haven’t been included yet, upload your photo to share your story and your cause for the 2013 Boston Marathon. 

Just click “Upload Photos/Videos,” select a photo, add your information into the caption, and voila! You’re done, and you help get the word out to your neighbors about your charity and your reasons for running Boston’s big race. 

We’ll be featuring South End runners and their charities later in April.
