Things to Know in the South End, June 24: Québec Fête at Beehive

1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a sunny day, with a high near 90 degrees. There’s a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. 

2. Quebec National Day at BeehiveTo celebrate “La Fête nationale du Québec” or “Quebec National Day” Beehive Restaurant will be featuring an evening of inspired food and live performance from award-winning singer-songwriters Isabelle Cyr and Yves Marchand. Dinner starts at 5 p.m., and music starts at 8 p.m. The evening’s food will feature traditional Quebec fare and cocktails. See here for more information

3. For the Kids: Urbanity Dance, (280 Shawmut Ave) is hosting a variety of summer kids dance classes, with everything from hip hop to a summer intensive program for kids 16 and older. Sessions start this week. See here for more information

Things to Know in the South End Today, May 20: Stevie Wonder Night at Beehive

1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a partly sunny day, with a high near 79 degrees and a 50 percent chance of showers and a thunderstorm in the morning. 

2. Stevie Wonder Night: The Beehive Restaurant (541 Tremont St.) is holding a birthday tribute to Stevie Wonder tonight with funk-jazz band The Funky ABs. The show goes on from 8 p.m. through midnight, and there’ll be a full dinner menu as well as snacks at the bar. See here for more information. 

3. Name Change: Over the weekend, Mayor Thomas M. Menino officially announced the renaming of the Cathedral public housing development for Ruth Lillian Barkley, a former resident and leader who worked for more than 40 years to improve the quality of life for BHA residents at Cathedral and throughout the City of Boston.

4. Marathon Fundraiser:  The Boston Center for Adult Education (122 Arlington St.) is hosting a special fundraiser just for hair stylists to raise money for Celeste Corcoran, a stylist from Emerge Salson who was injured in the marathon bombing. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. attendees will learn how to style models for a formal wear editorial photo shoot from start to finish. The BCAE and all stylists are donating their space and time for the event. All proceeds will go directly to Celeste Corcoran. Things to Know in the South End Today, April 12: Carbo-Load at Beehive

Many runners in the Martian Marathon will be noshing on pasta dinners tonight. Where are you going to get yours?

1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a windy, rainy day with a high of 41 degrees. There’s an 100 percent chance of rain and wind gusts could get up to 35 mph. 

2. Pre-run Carbo Load: If you’re planning to run the marathon (or not) fuel up on carbs on Sunday night at The Beehive’s “Sunday Night Blues Series” featuring an all-star house blues band led by 25-year musical veteran keyboardist and producer, Bruce Bears. Enjoy carbo-loaded pasta specials such as eggplant & spinach parmesan with pasta ($ 22), duck and jalapeño risotto ($ 23) and swordfish milanese ($ 26). See here for more information
