Things to Know in the South End Today, May 22: Fundraiser for Project HIP-HOP
1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a mostly cloudy day, with a high near 81 degrees, and a 30 percent chance of showers in the afternoon. 2. Fundraiser for HIP-HOP: Join the board, staff and young people of Project HIP-HOP for their 5th Annual event, REVOLVE, a fundraiser and celebration of Project HIP-HOP’s work. There will be foot on hand from Aaron Tanaka, and free beer, wine and non-alcholic drinks. There will be a silent auction with prizes including art, Red Sox gear, or MFA passes. The city of Boston released a list of all the streets that will be repaved over the course of the coming year. See more here. 4. Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Join others who are seeking a job a a free professional networking group held each week at 6 p.m. at the Boston Public Library’s main branch in Copley Square. Membership is open to anyone in career transition, including unemployed or underemployed individuals and recent college graduates in the fields of business, non-profit, and education, as well as persons re-entering the job market, struggling small business owners and anyone looking for part-time or volunteer work. The annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl will take place at Boston’s City Hall Plaza on June 4, 5, and 6 from noon to 8 p.m. Baskin Robbins, Ben & Jerry’s, Blue Bunny, Breyer’s, Byrne Dairy, Edy’s, Friendly’s, HP Hood, and SoCo Creamery will be in attendace. Summer Shack Fundraiser For Bombing Victim
The Boston Herald reported that a fundraiser will be held next month by Summer Shack for an employee who was severely injured in the Boston Marathon bombings. Karen Rand, office manager for Summer Shack, which has a location in Back Bay, lost a leg when the first bomb went off near the finish line on Boylston Street. Her friend and former co-worker, Krystle Campbell, was one of three people killed April 15. The restaurant will hold a “Spectacular LobsterBake” at its seasonal location on Spectacle Island in Boston Harbor June 5, according to the Herald. Tickets will be $ 100 and 200 will be sold. PHOTOS: Fundraiser for the Hurley School
The Neighborhood Parents for the Hurley School organized a Latin-inspired fundraiser this weekend to raise money for the South End’s Hurley K–8 School. The Hurley School, located at 70 Worcester St. is a dual-language immersion school. Through special fundraising, the parents group has funded anti-bullying education, mentoring, music, theater dance and woodworking programs and an athletic field, among other programs. Friday night’s fundraiser, called Club Tropicaliente! was held at the Benjamin Franklin Institute at 41 Berkeley St. Guests enjoyed live music, an open bar, and Latin-inspired food from South End favorites like Toro, Orinoco, El Centro, Flour Bakery + Cafe, b.good, Tremont 647,Above & Beyond Catering, Zocalo Cocina Mexicana, Vejigantes, Morse Fish, Dish in the City, El Oriental de Cuba, and the South End Buttery. ‘Boston Bites Back,’ Fundraiser for One Fund at Fenway Park
The Fenway neighborhood will play host to a large-scale fundraising event for the One Fund next week, known as Boston Bites Back. Nearly 100 of Boston’s top chefs will be coming together to present a special culinary tasting event at Fenway Park on May 15 in order to raise $ 1 million for The One Fund. The event is spearheaded by celeb chefs Ken Oringer and Ming Tsai, the Boston Red Sox, Governor Patrick, Mayor Menino, and ARAMARK. The idea is to bring Bostonians together to eat, drink and demonstrate Boston’s unrelenting spirit, while raising money for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, according to organizers. “BBB is an opportunity for the city to join as one and acknowledge our strength as a community,” said Ken Oringer, owner of Clio, Toro, Copa & Uni. “Nothing speaks more to our collective resolve than an evening of hospitality, unity and hometown pride in one of the most iconic venues in Boston – Fenway Park.” “Food is our common ground, a universal experience,” said Ming Tsai, owner of Blue Ginger & Blue Dragon. “This event is an occasion for Bostonians to reconnect over food, mingle with chefs and honor our city’s inspiring resilience. It’s an opportunity for Bostonians to literally ‘bite’ back.” The event also features an online auction with Boston-centric prizes like throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park, meeting Bill Belichcik, and a special celebrity cookoff right in your own home. The event will be held from 6-10 p.m. at Fenway on Wednesday, May 15. General admission is $ 200, and VIP admission is $ 1,000 per ticket. Hurley School Fundraiser: Looking for a way to donate to a local elementary school while having a great time? This Friday is the Club ¡TropiCaliente!, an event organized by the Neighborhood Parents for the Hurley School. The Benjamin Franklin Institute will be transformed into a glamorous 1950s Latin nightclub with food from Toro, Morse Fish, Flour, Tremont 647 and Vejigantes, and more. Things to Know in the South End Today, April 3: T-shirt Fundraiser Sale for ARL at SAULT

ARL & SAULT: Men’s retailer Sault (577 Tremont St.) is hosting a special fundraising sale starting today on a collection of graphic t-shirts and tote bags to benefit the Animal Rescue League of Boston. This limited addition collection will be available exclusively at SAULT New England, and 100 percent of the proceeds from each sale will go directly back to the South End branch of the ARL of Boston.
