Marathon Spotlight: South End’s Pflug Running for Perkins School

For South End resident Jennifer Pflug, this year’s Boston Marathon is more than just a race. It’s an opportunity to raise money for a cause near to her heart – Perkins, founded in 1829 as the nation’s first school for the blind. Pflug is on the Perkins charity team, and personally committed to raising $ 5,000 for the Watertown school. Currently a student at Northeastern University, Pflug participated in the physical therapy co-op program at Perkins last year. “Working at Perkins has greatly impacted my life,” she said. “I always knew that physical therapy was the right career choice for me, but I hadn’t realized my true passion until my experience at Perkins. As much as I like to think I impacted the students’ lives, they have truly inspired me. Day after day, the kids never ceased to put a smile on my face. I want to run the marathon for the students, for all of their hard work and efforts, and because despite any difficulties, at the end of the day, they just want to be kids.” To support Pflug’s marathon run and make a donation to Perkins, visit http://www.perkins.org/supportperkins/special-events/boston-marathon/2013/jenn-pflug.html.
