Things to Know in the South End Today, March 14: Irish Harp Orchestra Performance

Posted on March 14, 2013

1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a partly sunny day with a high of 41 degrees.

2. Irish Harp Orchestra: Kick off your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with toe-tapping Irish tunes from the New England Irish Harp Orchestra. Comprised of 17 harpists, the group will perform sing-a-long songs and Irish dance tunes that will give the audience a “taste of Ireland.” Happening tonight at 7 p.m. at the Community Music Center of Boston (34 Warren Ave.). See here for more information.

3. Cardinal O’Malley Back to South End: The new leader of the Catholic church was selected yesterday, and it wasn’t the South End’s Cardinal Sean O’Malley. The new pope is Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina, who will go by Pope Francis. Read more on the local reaction here.

4. Street Sweeping Postponed:  Remember, street sweeping in the South End for this week has been postponed due to weather conditons, so you will not have to move your cars this week.

5. Voter registration:  The last day to register to vote or change one’s voting address or party affiliation for the April 30 primary is April 10. The Election Department is located in Room 241 of Boston City Hall and will be open until 8 p.m. that evening to accommodate prospective registrants and those wishing to make changes. Voters who have used absentee ballots in the past are reminded that a new application must be filled out each calendar year. Applications can be downloaded from the Election Department’s website, www.cityofboston.gov/elections.
