Police arrested a South End man for allegedly trying to break in to two buildings on Dwight Street on Tuesday evening.
Boston Police Offices responded to a report of an attempted breaking and entering at 7 Dwight Street on April 2 at 5:30 p.m. While en route, officers were informed by the caller’s neighbor that the caller was following the suspect.
Officers located the victim with the suspect near Shawmut Avenue and Dwight Street.
The victim told police he was out walking his dog for about 45 minutes and returned to find the suspect in the doorway of his residence trying to pry the lock with a pair of scissors. When the victim asked the suspect what he was doing, the suspect reportedly told him, “I’m just looking for them. They went in here.”
According to police, the suspect gave the victim several incoherent stories. The victim was able to recover the scissors from the suspect and called the police. The suspect then stated that he was looking for his bags and headed out towards Shawmut Avenue.
At this point, the victim informed his neighbor that the suspect had tried to enter his apartment. The suspect then tried to enter the neighbor’s building at 225 Shawmut Avenue. Again, the suspect kept saying that he needed to get his bags, the victim told police.
Officers spoke to the suspect, who told officers that he was looking for his bags. Officers were able to locate two bags in the rear of 225 Shawmut Avenue. One of the bags was empty, the other contained a wooden planter. The suspect identified these bags as his. Officers observed fresh pry marks on the door of the victim’s apartment.
Officers arrested David Medina, 19 Dwight St., and charged him with attempted breaking and entering, two counts of possession of burglarious tools, and resisting arrest. Officers recovered a Philips head screwdriver and the scissors, according to their police report. Medina also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Brockton District Court.
The suspect allegedly told police he wanted to pay for the damage to the door for trying to break into the building. He also told police he allegedly saw a man dragging a woman into the house.
