Things to Know in the South End Today, March 26: Meeting on ‘Parklets’

San Francisco has several parklets, taking up the space of one or multiple parallel-parking spaces.

1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a mostly sunny day with a high near 47 degrees. 

2. Parklet Community Meeting: City representatives will be hosting a community meeting tonight to discuss the city’s parklet project, an initiative to turn parking spaces into mini-parks. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the D-4 Community Room at 650 Harrison Ave. One South End resident weighed in about the project back in August. Read his letter here. 

3. Musical at BCA: Now through April 5th, you can catch “A New Brain” at the BCA Plaza Theatre (539 Tremont St.) Centered on a near-death experience of a songwriter, the musical explores perspectives on the fleeting nature of time, life, and love, and the inspiring power of art to heal and transform. 4. Easter Brunch at the Beehive: If you’d like to celebrate easter with a nice brunch here in the South End, The Beehive Restaurant (541 Tremont St.) is offering a three course prix-fixe menu from 10 am. to 4 p.m. Options include eggs benedict with smoked salmon, ham or short Ribs and Easter classics such as roast leg of lamb and baked spiral ham for $ 33.95. 5. DCR art contest: The Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking artists to paint wildlife and landscape scenes on 99 Iron Rangers, the narrow metal contribution containers located in parks across the state. Donations placed in the Iron Rangers directly benefit the state parks. Artists’ proposals must be submitted by April 26. Selected artists will be notified by May 1, and the work must be completed by Aug. 30.
