FBI: Man Killed in Florida in Connection with Marathon Bombings
One man is dead and an agent is injured after a confrontation between the FBI and Mass. State Police in connection with the Boston Marathon bombing in the Orlando area on Wednesday morning. The FBI on Wednesday morning said an agent, two Massachusetts State Police troopers and other law enforcement personnel were interviewing an individual in connection with the Boston Marathon bombing when he attacked the agent. The FBI identified the person shot and killed as Ibragim Todashev, 27. During the confrontation, Todaschev was shot and killed and the agent sustained non-life threatening injuries. “As this incident is under review, we have no further details at this time,” the FBI said. Martin Richard, 8-Year-Old Killed in Marathon Bombing, Laid to Rest
Martin Richard, the youngest of the victims killed in the Boston Marathon bombings April 15, has been laid to rest. NECN.com reports parents Denise and Bill Richard had a private burial service and funeral for the boy Tuesday morning, and thanked the public for its support. “The outpouring of love and support over the last week has been tremendous. This has been the most difficult week of our lives and we appreciate that our friends and family have given us space to grieve and heal,” the parents said in a statement on NECN.com. MIT Officer Killed, Reports of Shootout in Watertown
Update 1:26 a.m. Police may have unexploded devices on Laurel and Dexter, getting residents out of there. Another possible suspect may be involved. Update 1:25 a.m. Suspect is being held at Mt. Update 1:03 a.m. Two officers are down at the scene in Watertown, as is one of the two suspects, according to police scanner reports. Update 12:55 a.m. Two men allegedly hijacked a black Mercedes SUV in Cambridge around midnight, according to police scanner reports. The men let the driver out of the vehicle on Memorial Drive about 30 minutes later, according to the reports. Police then tracked the vehicle to Watertown and are currently in a shootout with the suspects near 105 Laurel St. in Watertown, according to the reports. There are also reports of explosions in that area. It is unclear if this incident is related to the MIT shooting at this time. —– A MIT Police officer is dead after a campus shooting near Vassar and Main Streets, the Middlesex District Attorney confirmed early Friday morning. The officer was responding to a report of a disturbance when he was reportedly shot, a press release reads. Evidence was found of “multiple gunshot wounds.” He was pronounced deceased at Mass General Hospital. Authorities are aware of no other victims. No arrests have been made and the situation is ongoing. According to a report in the The Atlantic, MIT released an emergency alert at 10:48p.m. Thursday. “Shots fired near 32 Vassar Street (Stata Center),” the notice read. “Police officer down. Please stay inside.” At 12:01 a.m., the official MIT Twitter account tweeted, “Police are sweeping the campus in relation to the shooting at Building 32/76 (Stata/Koch), continue to stay indoors until further notice.” Patch will update this story as more details become available. Medford Native Killed in Boston Marathon Bombings
A 29-year-old Medford native died in the Boston Marathon terror attacks yesterday, WCVB is reporting. Krystle Campbell was a 2001 graduate of Medford High, WCVB reported. The Boston Globe reported that Campbell was most recently an Arlington resident. Her father, William A. Campbell Jr., told Yahoo News that his daughter was at the finish line to cheer on her boyfriend who was running in the marathon. On WHDH, Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn said he spoke with Campbell’s family within the last half-hour and offered the city’s support and assistance. McGlynn said that her father called Campbell “the daughter everyone dreamed of having—loved life, very energetic and had a big smile.” Campbell’s LinkedIn profile listed her job as general manager at Summer Shack in Hingham. The restaurant’s Twitter account tweeted, “The Summer Shack family is devastated by the loss of our beloved Krystle Campbell. Please keep her & her family in your thoughts & prayers.” Three people died in Monday’s bombing, including Campbell and 8-year-old Martin Richard of Dorchester.
