Twice Monthly I-93 Overnight Closures to Begin Tuesday
Maintenance on Interstate 93 will require transportation officials to close the expressway through Boston two times per month beginning Tuesday on the northbound side. Traffic on I-93 northbound will be detoured off the expressway at exit 16, Southampton Street, and directed along surface streets beginning Tuesday, June 18 at 11 p.m. and ending Wednesday, June 19 at 5 a.m., according to a state Department of Transportation press statement. Traffic may re-enter I-93 northbound at the Haymarket on-ramp. Traffic headed toward Route 1 northbound (Tobin Bridge) should stay on surface roads and access the Route 1 northbound on-ramp at City Square, according to the statement. Work will include tunnel wall and sign washing, drain clearing and maintenance, as well as maintenance of electrical and communications systems. The next closure will be on the southbound side of I-93 the night of July 2 into July 3. Following that will be another closure on the northbound side the night of July 16 into July 17.
