Patrick Clancy remarried. The question of who his new wife is, when they married, and how a man whose three children were killed in January 2023 came to be starting a second family has been searched tens of thousands of times a month since the Lindsay Clancy trial began. Until Sunday night most of the answers were guesses. On September 20 Dr. Rachel Danis sat beside her husband for a “60 Minutes” interview with Ross Douthat and answered them herself.
This piece sets out what is publicly known about her, from her own professional biography, the broadcast, and the reporting around it. It does not speculate about anything she has not chosen to say. It also explains why the marriage became a courtroom fact in July, and why it has no bearing on the criminal case against Lindsay Clancy.
Who Rachel Danis is
Rachel B. Danis is a physician. She is a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist at Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York, one of the larger fertility practices in Manhattan, and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. According to her practice biography she specializes in endometriosis, ovulation induction, family building for LGBTQ patients, and fertility preservation.
Her training is listed as a medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine, a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Hahnemann University Hospital at Drexel, and a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Southern California. The same biography describes research, book chapters and teaching of medical students, residents and junior fellows, and, for what it is worth, says that outside the office she takes Barry’s Bootcamp and ballet classes, bakes, and walks in Central Park. MassLive, citing her LinkedIn page, reported that she has been with the practice since 2022.
People searching for reviews of her as a doctor will find them on the practice’s site and on the usual physician-rating pages. We have not evaluated them and do not repeat them here. Her clinical reputation is not what made her name a search term.
How she and Patrick Clancy met
In January 2024, a year after the killings, Patrick Clancy was living alone in a midtown Manhattan apartment. He had moved to New York in April 2023, as he told “60 Minutes,” because he wanted to be somewhere nobody knew his story. He joined a running club.
Danis told Douthat what happened next. “Pat pulled out his phone to pay, and I noticed this adorable photo of children as the wallpaper. And I just asked, ‘Who are those cuties?’ And Pat said, ‘Those are my kids.’ And then I think I asked if they live in Massachusetts, and Pat said, ‘They died.’ And this is just at the cashier.”
Asked what she did then, she said: “I guess I had so many questions, and yet at the same time I didn’t know exactly what to ask.” The broadcast described the relationship deepening as they ran together.
In the promotional clip released before the broadcast she put it more plainly, addressing the online scrutiny of the relationship directly: “I was just a girl that met a guy running in Central Park on a really cold Saturday. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”
When they married
They were married in New York City in April 2026, according to the broadcast. MassLive reported the same month, citing an Instagram post. That was roughly three months before Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial opened in Plymouth Superior Court.
The marriage became public on July 23, 2026, during a pretrial hearing, when defense attorney Kevin Reddington referred to Patrick Clancy as divorced and remarried. Reddington said Clancy was “trying hard to move on with his life” and called him “a young man that has suffered one of the worst tragedies that anyone could ever suffer.” The divorce from Lindsay Clancy was finalized before the trial began. When The New Yorker profiled him in October 2024, Clancy declined to discuss the status of his marriage out of deference to Lindsay. His mother, Sue Clancy, told the magazine: “He has to come to terms with the fact that she’s no longer part of anything. She’s gonna go her way, and he’s gonna go his.”
What she said on 60 Minutes
The joint interview was her first. Douthat asked her whether she thought she helped Clancy carry his grief. “I hope,” she said. Clancy answered the same question about her without hesitation: “Yeah. Yeah. I’m 100%. My life has changed since I met Rachel in such a positive way.”
Danis continued: “I always try to take some of the weight from Pat. I always wanna strive to do that. I know I can’t fix, I can’t bring his kids back. But if I can honor them and allow Pat to grieve but also just continue to honor them in the present, I guess that’s all I can do.”
Douthat then said, “And you guys are starting a family.” She answered, “Yeah.” Asked what he would tell that child about Cora, Dawson and Callan, Clancy said: “I think every parent can agree, you have different relationships with your kids, but they’re all your kids. And I can’t wait to tell them about their brothers and sister.”
The couple did not say more than that, and neither has anyone else with standing to. The Boston Globe headlined its account of the interview on that line.
Why the relationship was attacked online
During the trial, social media accounts built a set of theories in which Patrick Clancy was the real killer, or had an affair, or had moved on too fast. The remarriage was used as evidence for all three. None of it was ever suggested in court by either side. The prosecution’s theory was that Lindsay Clancy planned the killings while criminally responsible. The defense’s theory was that she was in a postpartum psychosis and not responsible. Both sides agree she killed the children. Patrick Clancy testified for the prosecution as its first witness and has spoken in support of his ex-wife’s mental-illness account repeatedly since 2023.
On September 8 his lawyer, Howard Cooper, called the online campaign “relentless, escalating and destructive” and threatened legal action. Danis herself has not been accused of anything by anyone. She is a physician who married a widower she met at a run club. The scrutiny of her is a byproduct of the scrutiny of him.
Does the remarriage matter to the criminal case
No, and it is worth being precise about why.
First, timing. Patrick Clancy and Rachel Danis met in January 2024, a year after the killings. The divorce and remarriage followed. Nothing about the marriage bears on what happened in Duxbury on January 24, 2023, and neither side offered it as evidence.
Second, testimony. Massachusetts has a rule, G.L. c. 233, § 20, under which a spouse cannot be compelled to testify against the other spouse in a criminal proceeding. That rule applies to people who are married at the time of the testimony. The Clancys were divorced before trial, so it did not apply, and Patrick Clancy testified under subpoena like any other witness. Had the divorce not happened, that would have been a live question. It was not.
Third, victim status. Under the Massachusetts victim bill of rights, G.L. c. 258B, the father of the three victims is himself a victim with a right to confer with the prosecutor before a retrial decision. His marital status has no effect on that. District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not announced whether he will retry Lindsay Clancy. The next hearing is September 29.
What is not public
Where the couple lives beyond “New York,” when a child is expected, and any detail of the wedding beyond the month and city. Reporters have not published those things and we will not guess at them. Lindsay Clancy is presumed innocent of the charges against her. She has admitted killing her children and contends she was not criminally responsible.
