They are divorced. That is the short answer, and it is the one most people searching for it want.
The longer answer is that Patrick Clancy spent two days on a witness stand in July describing the worst night of his life, ten feet from the woman who caused it, and then went back to a life he has rebuilt almost entirely from scratch in another state.
The divorce
Patrick filed after the killings, and the divorce was finalized before the trial began. It surfaced publicly in court on July 23, 2026, when defense attorney Kevin Reddington referred to him as divorced and remarried. Neither side has made an issue of the timing, and nothing about the marriage’s end has been treated as evidence in the case.
He is still referred to in some coverage as her husband. He is not. When he testified, prosecutors and reporters described him as her ex-husband.
What he said in the days after
Nine days after his children died, while his wife lay in a hospital bed paralyzed and charged with murdering them, Patrick Clancy posted a statement that has followed the case ever since.
“I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have. The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone, me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients. The very fibers of her soul are loving. All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace.”
He has not walked it back. In a 2024 interview with The New Yorker he described the phone call he had with her from the hospital, when she told him a voice had commanded her and said it was her last chance. His account of it was four words long: “She didn’t sound like my wife.”
Six months after the killings he called her at Tewksbury Hospital on her thirty-third birthday.
Where he is now
He sold the house in Duxbury. He traveled alone through Latin America and Europe, then moved to New York City in 2023 and rented an apartment there.
In the spring of 2026 he remarried. His wife is Dr. Rachel Danis, a fertility specialist. He works for Microsoft, and he co-founded the Heard Foundation, a charity named for Cora, Dawson, and Callan that focuses on perinatal mental health care, the exact gap in the system that his own family fell through.
People magazine reported the details of that rebuilt life last week, during the trial. Fox News covered the remarriage. Both stories landed while he was still a witness in a murder case about his own children, which is its own kind of answer to what the last three years have been like.
His testimony
He took the stand in late July over two days. The jury heard roughly six minutes of his 911 call, the one where he is screaming that his wife killed the kids and begging for help in the basement.
He walked jurors through January 24, 2023: the takeout order from a Plymouth restaurant, the 5:15 p.m. text asking him to also stop at a CVS in Kingston for children’s medicine, the drive back, the locked bedroom door, the blood, the open window, his wife on the ground outside saying she had tried to kill herself, and then the basement, where he found all three children and started CPR.
He told the jury she had been having one of her better days. He said nobody had warned him against leaving the children with her.
On cross-examination, Reddington drew out the other half. Patrick agreed his wife had been a devoted mother, that she had been severely sleep-deprived and anxious, and that the family had been assured she was safe.
He described his children the way a father does. Dawson was into firefighters and trucks and liked Paw Patrol. Callan, the baby, was just happy. Ten feet away, Lindsay was sobbing. They never made eye contact, and when he was excused he looked straight ahead and walked out.
Why people online blame him anyway
A theory has circulated since 2023 that Patrick Clancy must have known something, or done something, or been involved. There is no evidence for it, and no party in the case has ever suggested it.
Rusty Yates, whose then-wife Andrea drowned their five children in Texas in 2001, went on NewsNation this week specifically to say so. Asked whether anything about the case gave him misgivings about Patrick, he answered: “No. No, not at all.” He described the email a stranger once sent him accusing him of beating Andrea, an accusation invented from nothing, and said the machinery around this kind of speculation has only gotten worse since his own case.
