Things to Know in the South End Today, Feb. 13: Parking Ban Lifted

1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a mostly sunny day with a high of 42 degrees. Keep melting! 2. Boston Parking Ban Lifted: As of Tuesday at 6 p.m. Boston’s Snow Emergency Parking ban was lifted. You can now once again park on Columbus Avenue, Dartmouth Street East Berkeley Street, Harrison Avenue, Herald Street, Massachusetts Avenue, Tremont Street, and Washington Street, among others.  3. School’s Back Today: Boston Public Schools announced yesterday that there would be school on Wednesday for Boston students. 4.  V-Day at the Beehive: Starting tonight, the The Beehive Restaurant (541 Tremont St.) is presenting “3 Days of Lovin’” a 3-day long love fest of Valentine’s Day inspired dinners accompanied by romantic live music, drink specials and as menu specials. Things to Know in the South End Today, Feb. 12: Parking Ban Still in Effect

1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a mostly sunny day with a high of 45 degrees. Melt, baby, melt! 2. Boston Parking Ban Still in Effect: As of Tuesday morning, Boston’s Snow Emergency Parking ban is still in effect. In the South End, this means no parking on parts of Columbus Avenue, Dartmouth Street East Berkeley Street, Harrison Avenue, Herald Street, Massachusetts Avenue, Tremont Street, and Washington Street, among others. We’ll keep you posted when the ban is eventually lifted.  3. No School Today: Boston Public Schools announced last night that there would again be no school on Tuesday for Boston students. The city is still at work clearing bus routes and removing snow from school facilities.  4.  Mardi Gras at the Beehive: “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” tonight at the The Beehive Restaurant (541 Tremont St.) 6th Annual Mardi Gras celebration tonight at 5 p.m. You’ll get to hear jazz from the BT New Orleans 2nd Line Brass Band, try Cajun inspired à la carte specials, and finish off your meal with a big Hurricane. Things to Know in the South End Today, Feb. 8: Snow Emergency at Noon, MBTA Shuts Down at 3:30 p.m.

1. Weather: On Thurday night, Friday’s storm was upgraded to a blizzard warning, and at least two feet of snow is expected in this area. The storm will start on Friday morning and will hit peak intensity starting Friday afternoon into Friday night. See here for the latest forecast. 2. MBTA To Shut Down: All bus, subway commuter rail and other services will be suspended starting at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Regular MBTA service will operate “with significant delays” from the start of service Friday until the 3:30 p.m. cutoff. See here for more info.  3. Snow Emergency Parking: A snow emergency will begin at noon in Boston. Here’s a list of the streets you cannot park on, and a link to the nearby garages in the South End that are offering parking specials. The governor is urging residents to be off the road by noon Friday.  4.  Cancelling a weekend event? Or is your store or business closing early on Friday? Things to Know in the South End Today, Feb. 7: Storm’s a-Comin’

1. Weather: The latest forecast is calling for 1-2 feet of snow right here in the heart of Boston. The storm will start on Friday morning and will hit peak intensity starting Friday afternoon into Friday night. See here for the latest forecast. 2. City Already Planning for Storm: The city of Boston announced yesterday there will be more than 600 snow plows and other snow removal equipment on the streets starting Friday, and that roads will be pre-treated as much as possible. The city also announced they may also ask commuters to NOT drive into the city on Friday. We’ll keep you updated on the latest from the Mayor’s Office. See here for more information.  3. Things to Know in the South End Today, Feb. 6: Chester Sq. Neighborhood Association Talks Trees, Trash

1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of snow showers before 9 a.m. then a gradual clearing, with a high of 39 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. 2. Chester Square Neighborhood Meeting: For the residents of the Chester Sq. area, there’s a meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the Harriet Tubman House at United South End Settlements (566 Columbus Ave.) On the agenda is information and planning for an Arbor Day event in April, trash issues and information for new residents. See here for more information. 3. Brewers Helping Neighbors: Coming up on Thursday is a special event at the United South End Settlements, (566 Columbus Ave.) Join friends, colleagues, and neighbors for this year’s Brewers Helping Neighbors, which will feature a Mardi Gras theme with live music, ten local brewers, and four Your $ 40 ticket supports the work of United South End Settlements – direct services and community advocacy for the South End and Lower Roxbury. See here for more information.  4.  Taste of the South End: Tickets are now on sale for the upcoming Taste of the South End, which benefits the AIDS Action Committee of MA. For $ 100, you can experience unlimited food and wine sampling from Boston’s best kitchens. For slightly more, you can experience Taste of the South End as a VIP, gaining early entry to the tasting room and enjoying special VIP benefits. Taylor Street Update: In case you’ve been following along, the Landmarks Commission reviewed the demolition at 8-10 Taylor Street on Tuesday night and determined that the stop work order would be lifted, and the demolished east wall of the property would need to be rebuilt up to preservation standards. The owners will also need to appear before the Landmarks Commission again next month with updated plans for the east wall. Free Chili When It’s Freezing: For the next month, any time the temperature drops below freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit), Darryl’s Corner Bar & Kitchen (604 Columbus Ave.) will be offering a complimentary cup of chili or their famous gumbo, when requested, with the purchase of an entrée.  3. Boston During Climate Change: Today, Mayor Menino will announce several new planning and policy initiatives to better prepare Boston for Hurricane Sandy-like storms, a rising sea level, and other climate change impacts.
