1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a sunny day, with a high near 83 degrees. There’s a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. 2. Donations Needed: Planet Self Storage, (33 Traveler St.) is seeking donations of used cell phones to be given for soldiers. Drop off your old cell phone at the front desk, and they will donate them for you. See here for more information. 3. Bootcamp in Southie: This one’s not in the South End, but it’s on the beach! Ultimate bootcamp is hosting a four-week summer bootcamp at Carson Beach in the mornings. Programs start at $ 39. See here for more information. 4. Author Talk: Tomorrow night, author Philip Gambone will be at the South End Branch Library (685 Tremont St.) to read from his current work-in-progress, retracing the steps of his father who, as a soldier, was sent to Europe during the Second World War. Things To Know in the South End, June 12: Cell Phone Drive for Soldiers
1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a cloudy day, with a high near 71 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. 2. Donations Needed: Planet Self Storage, (33 Traveler St.) is seeking donations of used cell phones to be given for soldiers. Drop off your old cell phone at the front desk, and they will donate them for you. See here for more information. 3. Art Show: The South End Community Health Center, (1601 Washington St.) has announced it will host its first ever art show on Saturday, June 15, 2013. The organization will bring together a number of accomplish artists to help raise awarness about their mission and impact in the South End. Twenty percent of the sale proceeds made during the show will support the nonprofit. See here for more information. 4. South End Garden Tour: Don’t forget, this year’s South End Garden Tour will take place on June 15th, rain or shine. The 20th annual tour, “Artists in the Gardens” will feature artists from United South End Artists, Inc. at their easels creating en plein air paintings in selected gardens and other locations. Immediately after the tour, the paintings will be available for sale at a reception at City Year headquarters at 287 Columbus Avenue in the South End. The reception is open to the public with a $ 10 admission and free to those with Garden Tour tickets. See here for more information. 5.
