LOST DOG: Have You Seen this Pug? [Updated: FOUND!]
The dog that went missing on Tuesday in the South End has been found and was reunited with his owner. —- Original article: A small pug went missing in the South End on Tuesday afternoon, and his owners are asking for the neighborhood’s help to locate him. The missing pug, Winston, is a fawn-colored dog with a black snout. He was last seen wearing a think black harness attached to a leash with black and red stripes. He was not wearing a collar but does have a microchip. He went missing in the area of Washington Street near Blackstone/Franklin Parks, speficially on East Springfield Street in the South End. Winston’s owners say he is extremely friendly, but is afraid of rain, so he could be hiding somehwere if it begins to rain. Things to Know in the South End Today: Mayor Menino Hosts Coffee Hour [Updated: Cancelled]
1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a cloudy day, with a high near 70 degrees, and a 70 percent chance of showers, including a possible thunderstorm. 2. Coffee with Menino: Mayor Menino was slated to be in the South End today to host a neighborhood coffee hour this morning, but the event has been cancelled due to weather. The mayor will be in Mattapan tomorrow for another coffee hour. See here for more information. 3. New Public Art: On Friday morning, the South End will get a new public art installation at the Animal Rescue League of Boston. Brookline artist and resident Tony Lopes commissioned a 12-foot tall stainless steel and bronze sculpture, designed by Medford-based artist David Phillips. Titled “Dancing with Spheres,” the sculpture will be unveiled at the League’s dog play yard at 10 Chandler Street on Friday, May 31 at 2 p.m. See here for more information. 4. Skin cancer screening: Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital (1153 Centre St.) is offering a free skin cancer screening on Wednesday, May 29 from 5-7 p.m. The screening is open to all residents who have not seen a dermatologist in more than a year. Appointments are required and can be made by calling the Community Health and Wellness Department at 617-983-7451. 5. Clifford Visits BPL: If you’ve got younger children, take them to see Clifford the Big Red Dog at the Boston Public Library today at 11 a.m. The event is sponsored by MEFA, which will also be having an open house today. Boston Trash Pick-up Schedule Updated
City workers will continue trash collection around Boston during the citywide shelter-in-place order, with pickup in the neighborhoods of Beacon Hill, Bay Village, Chinatown, the Leather District, the South End and the North End expected to be completed by 8 p.m. Friday. The notice was distributed via the city’s official Twitter account, @NotifyBoston at around 4:30 p.m. Friday, while the city remained under a lockdown. The neighborhoods of Allston and Brighton, Dorchester, Mission Hill, East Boston, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, West Roxbury and Roslindale should have trash collected by 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, according to the Twitter alerts. If items in any neighborhoods are not collected by 6 a.m. Saturday, residents are being advised to take in the items until the next scheduled collection. For other alerts, check out the city website, cityofboston.gov, or sign up for notifications through ALERTBoston at cityofboston.gov/oem/alertboston.asp.
