‘City Hall To Go’ Truck To Visit the South End Every Month

The "City Hall To Go" truck visits Charlestown.

Boston’s “City Hall To Go” truck will begin making regular visits to several city neighborhoods this summer, starting on July 2.

The bright red vehicle (which was originally a Boston Police Department SWAT vehicle) provides a range of city services, including the ability to pay or dispute parking tickets; request birth, death or marriage certificates; and pay property and excise taxes—all available right in Boston’s residential communities so constituents don’t have to go all the way to City Hall.

In July, the truck will begin a regular rotation, visiting neighborhoods on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and available upon request on Fridays and Saturdays for special events, block parties and street festivals, according to a press release from the Mayor’s Office. The truck will be open weeknights until 7 p.m. and Saturdays until 5 p.m.

The “City Hall To Go” truck will be in the South End on the first Wednesday of every month at 4 p.m. beginning July 3rd.  read more

SoWa Food Truck Runs Kickstarter Campaign to Open Restaurant

Mei-Mei Street Kitchen food truck serving creative and locally-sourced Chinese-American fare.

One of Boston’s most popular food trucks, Mei Mei’s Street Kitchen, is opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Audubon Circle this summer. But the owners of this already non-traditional business have sourced funding for their new expansion in yet another non-traditional way: By launching a Kickstarter campaign.

Owners and siblings Andy, Margaret (Mei) & Irene Li opened their American-Chinese cuisine food truck in 2012, combining Andy’s dining management experience with Mei’s business acumen and Irene’s farming and cooking skills.

Their Kickstarter campaign set a goal of $ 28,000 on June 1st to help turn their brick-and-mortar restaurance space into a certified sustainable business by the Sustainable Business Network. The trio said funds raised will go to environmentally-friendly improvements such as energy-efficient lighting, infrastructure & kitchen equipment, low-flow plumbing, compost and recycling programs, reclaimed materials for our floors, walls and counters and other green intiatives.  read more

An Hour Inside Roxy’s Food Truck in Under Two Minutes

Every week, about 30 to 40 food trucks turned out for the SoWa Open Market in South End. A weekly favorite, Roxy’s Gourmey Grilled Cheese, churns out sandwich after sandwich.

Ever wonder how they do it all?

Inside the food truck, six people work away turning out one sandwich after the other.

“It’s kind of like a machine,” employee Sydney Howlend said.

See one hour of the frenzy inside Roxy’s food truck at the SoWa market lapsed in a minute and a half above.
